I have my own previous and continue buttons on my pages.. When I try to use then all I get is a blank page.. I am using the light version. I also have a chapter page that has all the links to my other pages and when I click on a link I get a blank page.. When I complied a book these things don't work.. Your buttons seem to work fine.. How can I solve this problem..

I'm not sure about what you are using as "buttons".
If you are using images linked to the previous and/or next page, you must define a link for the image. Just select the image, then, with the right mouse button, choose "Define link" or "Define special link" and tell to the program the destination page.
There's no predefined page order in an EBooksWriter file: please notice that the page number at the bottom of the edit dialog is not shown to the end user and it is just an internal facility for authors. The users just see the links you define. If you define bad links or links to blank pages, they will see blank pages.

If you purchased 3D buttons, close EBooksWriter, then just install it.
Then open EBooksWriter.
Write some text, then select a text block (example "Click here" ), then click on the "Magic" button that will show on the toolbar.
The 3D buttons edit dialog will show, and the text will be transformed into a button (with the text "click here" over it), edit it, then ok.
Now the text has been transformed to a button. You will notice there's a fast shortcut in order to transform another text into a button of the same kind........
For more info, please see the 3D Buttons user's manual

So far I personnaly have not been able to get the "effect of pushing a button" to work.  I sent an E-Mail to 3D and I recieved the following E-Mail back.  With what they have to say is very disappointing considering I just spent $230.00 for EBooksWriter/3D Button bundle so I wouldn't have this kind of a problem.  Thinking everything would be compatiable, which seems not to be the case.  If thier is a fix for this on the way or a better work around for this problem I hope someone would mind telling me.

Thanks for your message.
We must inform you that Visual Vision products (we are different companies) like Ebookswriter cannot actually use all of the available functionalities that our editor offers when used stand-alone or when used as an add-in for
some other programs. The kind of rollover you need deals with the use of JavaScript which is not supported by Ebookswriter
Posted by: Support Staff Posted on: Aug 1st, 2005, 1:43pm
To be precise, 3D buttons can create a sort of Javascript (= programming stuff) that is needed by some other program not as intelligent and as visual as EBooksWriter (3D Buttons can work as plugin also with other software).
EBooksWriter does not need the Javascript, as you can create a rollover effect visually:
1) create the normal button (i.e. select a text, then use the magic button)
2) create the "rollovered" button as normal button, i.e. another button similar to the previous one that you want to be shown in place of the other one when the mouse is over. Example, select a text, use the magic button
3) now you have 2 buttons on the page. Delete the second one (the "rollovered"), yes, you can delete it as it is stored/memorized in the internal "album"
4) right click the image of the first button, "Image Properties", then you click the tab "Low res, mouse rollover", you click on the right side, then you choose the "rollovered" button from the album.
That's all.
If you have say 5 buttons the fast thing is to create the first 5 "normal state" then the 5 "rollover state" (this will permit you to use the magic button and the "Repeat last effect").

A couple of things about buttons I can't find in the forum.  I wish to use back and forward arrows, plus an arrow to return to the top, which are distinguishable and in the correct color.  I can't find any within EBW.  I'm sure linking them to the next page, the previous page, and top is just a simple link to the Chapter title.
Also, I wonder when to put the cover in, and whether it should be the first priority, or can it be put in later, again with the same arrow image to continue to the TOC, but the latter may affect the pathway in .epub or .mobi.  What is the best way to link the cover so it is the first thing seen.
Also, how do I insert a background color to match the shade of the bookcover?  Do I select all to make sure it is on all 27 pages?
I appreciate the help, as I've built my eBook 4 times now, and I keep finding the things I'm doing wrong.  It works every time, but the more I get into it, the more I seem to have done in error.  C'est la vie.

there are no constraints on where and when to place the cover for the ebook.
By default, the page 0 is defined as cover page (you can define what is the cover page in the top left of the Hypertext >Current hypertext properties dialog, on the second tab)
So usually you place an image on the page 0, and then you link this image to a page where you put the introduction or the table of contents. See for example the Oz ebook:
In addition to this, the ebook creation dialog, on the ebook tab, on the bottom, has several "significant" pages you can define (e.g. title-index, glossary, acknowledgments, copyright-page etc.).
By the way, the structure of the ebook (the linear page order) is defined with the menu Hypertext >Predefined page order - TOC.
You can always change the order later. So you can crete the stuff the pages anything, at any time. It doesn't matter.
As for the buttons, a button is a image with a link applied. You find some images within the clip art supplied with the program. If you install everything in the default position, when you use Insert >Image, then the Disk tab, you see a clipart folder. Otherwise you should browse the hard disk. Also, you can find free images of arrows etc etc on the Internet, or you can create with a Graphic or Paint software.
You insert the image with Insert >Image.
To associate a link to a image, you click the image with the rightside mouse button, then from the menu you choose "Define link" (or Define special link): the program will allow you to select the destination for the link (where you will jump when you click the button = the image of a button).
The more handy thing is, first, to write the text and scatter it on several pages. Then you can place images links, define the page order/TOC, etc.
By the way for mobi/epub most readers do automatically provide a way to go back and forth on the pages (the order is defined by the Hypertext >Predefined page order - TOC) with the hardware or software (touch) buttons.

by the way for EBooksWriter we tend to use more the other forum that is available at
I forgot to reply about the background. To fix a color or a image as background for all pages, you should use Hypertext >Current hypertext properties
Then you choose the color and/or image (on the right). Then besides the color/image selection there is a button without any label. Press it. It will ask confirmation. If you confirm it will change all pages.
By the way you can modify any single pages with Format >Page properties (it modifies the current page)
