Topic Summary

I have several books I have already written in Word. I purchased the STD version to make simple ebooks to sell on the web. I have no desire to make complex ebooks, I simply want one single page containing the whole book. I've copied and pasted the book and set up a password, but when I save it as an SFX ebook it never asks for user information when installed on another computer! It simply displays the ebook upon installation. I'm getting frustrated as hell because no matter what I do it won't ask the user for there name and email upon installlation. What am I doing wrong?

I believe there are dozens topics about passwords.
The password usage is covered in the Frequently Asked Questions (hit F1 or use )
A quick password overview is at:
From your question I guess you inserted a password but then you don't applied it to some pages... a password is asked ONLY when the user enters a password protected page.
As you see from the image on:
when you click on a password (mickey in this example) the program does show on the right list the pages protected by this password (they are checked) and the pages non-protected (or protected with another password), they are unchecked....
See also the online manual:

Addenda: please split the ebook into pages.
It is really boring to use only one page.
Additionally, the first page (page 0, the cover page) should be an intro page, maybe a nice image, and it is usually non protected (so the password will be asked only when the end user click the link "click here to start" or "start here" or so... and he enters the first passworded page)

Either I have encountered a bug that you are just not aware of or I simply haven't made myself clear. Let me repeat, it is NOT asking for name or email--PERIOD! I have read the darn manual and I read every topic on passwords BEFORE I made my post. I even had other people use it with the same result. I thought that maybe it was because I was using the download version, but the cd came today and I'm having the same problem. I'm really regretting having purchased this. I've made several test ebooks with just a few words to test the password function. Let me spell out step by step what I am doing:
1) I type a few words
2) I go to the password screen and add a password
3) I check the page I want protected and check "custom password for each user"
4)click OK
5) create an SFX book
But when I install the book on ANY computer it simply dispays the ebook. I've made books with many different pages so it has nothing to do with it only being one page. The only thing I can think of that could have something to do with it is that after I choose a password, if I go back to the screen I notice the password has disappeared as if I had never entered anything! I hope I am making myself clear this time. I know I'm writing alot but its because I'm getting frustrated as hell, especially when I'm told to read the manual!
p.s. I don't care about the ebook being "boring", I simply have a file that I want password protected. I don't have time to worry about graphics and linking pages etc. The only reason I bought the software was  because I thought I could just copy and paste my file and have it password protected.

The issue is now solved but I post this just for the others.
When you add a password, please make sure that then this password is "applied" to one or more pages.
As you know, with EbooksWriter you can add one or more password. Each password can be assigned to one or more pages. This way you can left a section non protected, and you can (say) create a "client" section with password A and a "dealer" section with password B.
The password protection process is basically this:
1) you press the "Add password" button
2) a password is added on the password list on the left (you can edit / change the password with a slow double click)
3) you select a password on the left list, then you check on the right list all the pages that will be protected with this password
Then you save the ebook (File >Save).
If you inserted just one password (simplest case) in order to verify that you actually "protected" something, there is a simple test. Load the ebook, use Hypertext >Password, select a password on the left, and take a look on the right list. Are the pages checked (or some)? If Yes, you protected these pages. If not, you forgot this step.
Michael just forgot this second step.
