Title: Password Help
Post by Guest User on Mar 10th, 2006, 4:32pm
Hello, Thanks is advance for your help.
I have Ebooks writer gold. I finished my first ebook, and wanted to password protect the author copy only.   I thought that I had added only an author password.  I uploaded my ebook to the web, and then purchased it to test download, and it demanded a password.

Then, I checked the book, and somehow my author password is listed in the reader column also.

Is it possible to delete this? I have been unsuccessfully trying to delete the reader version of the password.

Also, does anyone know how this happened, or how to prevent it from happening again with my next book?

Thanks everyone!

The "author password" means "password assigned by the author".

If "custom password for each user" is not checked, this password will be asked to the reader (so the reader password is identical to the author password).

If "custom password for each user" is checked, the "author pass" is the seed for calculating the reader passwords.

I guess you wanted to protect your ebook from editing (otherwise I see no reasons to distribute an ebook read-unprotected for the reader and to want to read-protect for the author :-) :-) ).

To protect your ebook from editing (write/edit protect) please use
Hypertext >Current hypertext properties
then look at the bottom of the first tab.

Hello , thanks for your help!  I had checked the box that says "read only. pass for editing" but I didn't realize that the open text box went with those words.
The open text box is not directly following the words.  There's about 10 empty spaces between the words and the text box.
So, it seemed to me that you check the "Read Only" box, and then go to add an "Author password" in the passwords sections.

Thanks for helping me to see this correctly.   For future versions, maybe they could move over the text box, or change the words to "Enter password here for read-only edit protect"
