Adding a discussion forum to my web?
« on: May 4th, 2004, 6:38am »

Hello folks - I am using 1Site and it's going great.

I'm just wondering what is the easiest way to add a discussion forum to my website - especially one that doesn't involve any HTML! etc...

Any suggestions?

Thanks

The easiest way is to have your hosting provider install it for you.

Some provide this in your Control Panel or with the Fantastico installer.

If you do not have this then you have to install it yourself or get one of the free ( with ads of course ) services available: just do a google search for "free discussion forum" or similar.

OK thanks for that. My host provider provided me with the snitz forum (at $11 a month!?) - which is OK - I can configure it and everything but I can't see how to upload to my website.

They have given me an ftp address - how does that fit with 1site??

HELP!!

As you may have seen we use "YABB" for our forum. We installed this product (that's free) on our paperinik.com server (not on www.1site.info as we wanted to install just one global forum for all products).
Some servers have a simple free forum within their control panel, some others may charge you a fee, but in any case they should install the forum....

When installed, a forum is a separate stuff that has its own life.
As you may see, we link the forum from www.1site.info with a simple link,
http://www.1site.info/forum/

Say the address of your forum is http://www.yoursite.com/yourforum/ just select a text block within 1SITE, use "Insert >Link", then the 3rd tab, then Add+ then type http://www.yoursite.com/yourforum/ (or whatever) and you have placed a link to the forum.

As for the "FTP" I really don't know how this can feature is useful / what has to do with a forum.
I don't understand so much the question......

P.S. if this FTP means that the forum still has to be installed, please understand that we can't help you to install external components - in certain cases it is a long job that may take days... please ask to your host or to a professional.

Thanks SS for all your help ( I think the support with VV is great).

I had a look at the YaBB forums - I like the look of them - but I think it requires a bit more understanding of html (and ftp?) language than I'm up to - or ever want to be up to - that's one of the reasons I use 1site!

Anyway I tried putting a link on my 1site page to the http address of my snitz forum (this step makes sense to me) but it doesn't seem to work - which I think is a problem with how I've set up the snitz forum - not with the 1site program.

Not to worry - I'm probably trying to do something way beyond what I'm capable of!!
(Like God knows what ftp has got to do with anything!  ) I've let my host server who put me onto snitz know about this problem - maybe they can sort it out for me.

Meanwhile I'll go back to updating the rest of mywebsite!   BIG thanks Miryyal

MY host provider sorted out the link for me.

It did work just using a link from my 1site web page.

Thanks for the help.
