Title: Ports and firewalls
Post by Morrelle on Apr 8th, 2005, 12:03am
Am I screw'd for having Windows XP w/ SP2? I am really wondering if this is the reason I get error #500 ALL THE TIME. :'(
Are there ports I have to open?

If you are using the default system firewall (XP2) the first time you attempt to publish with EasyWebEditor MSWindows should prompt a dialog with a sentence like this "The potentially bad program / malicious / $%%&&& / evil / whatever called 'EasyWebEditor' is attempting to connect with YYY, should I unblock this highly dangerous item?" and then you should click "Unblock", then EasyWebEditor will be enabled to do the normal and harmless FTP connection needed in order to publish your Website.
Other firewalls may require two steps (enable EWE to transmit and then to receive). Better to enable all "ports" for EWE if the firewall asks something about ports.
Another potential issue for error 500 is your antivirus (it could block connections as well as the firewall).
Last but not least, maybe you are incorrectly typing the FTP server name.
The usual format is:
with no prefixes such as ftp:// or http://
Of course the Internet connection must be active and ok.

Okay, let me try try these suggestions. I am not blaming you all. I LOVE this software. :)
I have just been having a very hard time uploading, and it gets a little frustrating.
Thank you for a GREAT product though! I have told ppl I know about this product! I hope they join the family.
