I have downloaded various pages from the web and looked at the HTML -

They all start with

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN"> - (or similar)

The HTML that I've saved from pages created in EasyWebEd does not have this ???

Why is that???

One book I read says it's mandatory on all pages!!

Do I need something similar if so what ??

I have not yet loaded my site onto the web!"

It's not really needed, as any browser does just ignore any code that starts with <!

Actually it's just a way to waste some bytes / space.

However the next EWE release will be able to insert this, in order to satisfy the W3C (www.w3c.org) fanatics.
You won't need to change your EWE documents, as the code with EWE is created "on the fly".

However, as said, it's not needed, it's just an XML remark. W3C would like it, but they can't actually change the "de facto".
